Digipak Draft

The drawings on the CD in my final Digipak will be much clearer, and there will be more photo's in the inside left. there will also be an image in each corner of the front cover which needs to be taken, and maybe one more image on the back cover.

CD Covers

Some album covers have no relevance to the songs or sometimes even the band. This would be a good route to good down in deciding what images to use on my Digi pack, although the idea of the mysterious, sexy woman, spoken about in 'Come Closer' could be used on the front cover.
These covers are more creative, and use more effects and cartoons/drawings rather than pictures of the band themselves.

Costume

The costume I have chosen for my band to wear follows the clothing worn by Noel and Liam Gallagher from Oasis. The band usually perform in these sort of clothes when performing, and Tommy often wears the same style glasses and scarf. The outfits are quite casual yet stylish, with designers such as Pretty Green on the T-Shirts and designer coats worn before/entering the stage. The floral patterned shirt is also popular along with black skinny jeans, once again keeping is smart but casual, influenced by the 60's "mod" culture.

smart casual clothing- jeans and a shirt.

Mood Board

The classic Sixties "mod" scene was influenced by the wave of British Invasion bands focusing on traditional American blues (The Animals, The Rolling Stones), Mod was the first true English R&B genre. Throughout the years, "mod" music fans have supported the same type of bands including Oasis, Miles Kane, Kasabian and The Jam.

Story Board Anamatic

An animatic storyboard will show me how the scene will look and whether the timing fits or not. I have put together a series of still images, the post-it notes from my story board- and have edited them together and displayed them in sequence to test whether the sound and images worth when put together.

Story Board

Using a story board to map out my music video helps to visualize the scenes and  layout and sequence of events as they are to be seen through the camera lens. it can also help to find potential problems before the filming and editing is physically done. In my story board there are 95 shots, but during editing this may change as whilst filming, as new shots may be formed during the process and these may look better than the ones originally planned.

The Equipment Used

Camera:
I will be using my Panasonic SD80 HD Camcorder to record my video. It have only had this camera for a few months, making it more reliable and has less chance of breaking down. I have used a similar camera to this in the past, and therefore know how to use it and what the controls are, this make it more efficient as no time will be needed to be spent getting used to it. It also films in HD giving me better quality.
HC-V520
Software:
I will mainly be using Final Cut Pro on the Apple iMac to edit my video, as this is high standard giving me access to the right tools and options to help make my video look professional.

Tripod:
Most of my filming will be done hand held as I don't want all of the shots to be dead still, as I want it to have a rough, lively feel to it. Some filming (in the rehearsal room) however will be filmed using a tripod, to keep the cut between shots clean and keep in the same position.

Schedule

Friday 13th September 2013- GlastonBudget Audition, The Shed Leicester
Aim- there will be a big crowd (the biggest one yet) so I want to get some shots of the crowd enjoying themselves and jumping to the music, creating a lively atmosphere showing that the band is real and that people enjoy their music.

Friday 27th September 2013- Lock 42, Leicester
Aim- To achieve close up shots of the boys from a different angle, the atmosphere will be different as the crowd is usually smaller and the boys will be less hyper. I can also film them back stage as there is usually some time between the sound check and when the doors open where we walk into Leicester and I can film them walking and talking down the street. Outside Lock 42 there is also a wall of graffiti, which would be a good back drop, but may need some extra lighting for this.

Saturday 28th September 2013- Leicester O2 Academy
Aim- The Leicester O2 academy is a well known venue in Leicester and is professionally lighted and has a nice big stage. The lighting will be better than at the smaller venues like The Shed and this could benefit some close up shots of the singer.

Saturday 5th October 2013- Cosby Village Hall supporting Kazabian (Kasabian tribute band)
Aim- To once again get more live shots of the band in action, maybe more of the rest of the band rather than the lead singer (if the lighting is acceptable to do so)

Wednesday 30th October- Cosby Rehearsal Barn
Aim- To use the tripod to achieve some more creative, neater and more controlled shots of the band including close ups, static shots and using effective lighting.

Textual Analysis of Music Videos- Arctic Monkeys- When The Sun Goes Down

Textual Analysis of Music Videos- Arctic Monkeys- Teddy Picker

Andrew Goodwins's Theory (Applied To Music Videos)

In my music video, the beat of the music will match the timing of the clips. The image of the band will match the style of the original song writer/singer, ensuring that the voice matches the personality. In terms of the mode of address, there is no story being told as it is not a narrative. It is a performance video and includes the Star Image (the lead singer and band) throughout the video. In relation of the visuals to the song, the lyrics and music will match up, the lip syncing will be in time and the right notes will be played on the instruments as they are heard in the song. The meaning of the song is completely ignored, causing the music video fall under the disjuncture category. In regards to the technical aspects of the music video, the speed will be of a fast pace, lining up with the fast pace of the song. The camera movement will vary depending on the dynamics throughout the song, and the cutting will mostly be short clips, once again keeping up with the short, rapid beats in the song. The setting of the music video will mostly be at a live music venue consisting of a stage, lights, band and crowd. This will create verisimilitude and keep the viewer comfortable with what they are watching as it is familiar and authentic and giving at a professional aspect.

Young Alts

The target audience for my genre of music are also 'Young Alts'. (TBC)

Indie Scenesters

The target audience for my genre of music are 'Indie Scenesters'. This group of people enjoy finding new music and listening to the less well known bands, away from the mainstream 'pop' music and have a genuine love for the music the find and listen to. Also, as the bands aren't as 'big' as the mainstream music, it is easier to get in touch, talk to and generally interact with the band, giving more opportunities to meet them, buy cheap merchandise and get to know them without crowds of screaming 'fan girls', and when there are more involved fans, they usually help each other, become friends and once again find new people and music who like the same things and spreading the love.
"it’s about championing independent artists rather than a specific genre, especially before the masses get in on the act."
The clothing worn usually consists of charity shop bargains, skinny jeans, vans or converse.

Location Ideas

Gig venues-
The band have a couple of gigs lined up, including:

13/09/13- Glastonbudget Audition- The Shed Leicester.
http://shedvenuedirect.co.uk/

28/09/13- O2 Academy in Leicester.

I will take my video camera with me to these gigs and shoot the band in action, this gives me a free (apart from the entry fee) venue, with lights, a crowd, stage and a good atmosphere capturing the boys performing naturally without them having to act in a set up room.

Casino Empire- Band Biography

Casino Empire are a 5 piece Alternative Rock band from Leicestershire.  The Band consists of:
Tommy Cobley- Lead Vocals
Jack Hall- Bass/ Vocals
Matt Gore- Guitar/ Vocals
Tom Marlow- Guitar
Ollie Dennis- Drums
They are influnced by bands including Oasis, Stereophonics, Kasabian, Blur, Miles Kane, Little Night Terrors, The Jam, The Stone Roses, The Kaiser Chiefs etc, and include a few covers from these bands in their set, along with a few of their own songs.
The band was formed as Jack and Ollie had previously been in a 3 piece punk band before, named "Drumhead" playing alongside guitarist and lead vocalist Josh Jones.
After Drumhead split up, following a dispute caused by musical differences, Ollie introduced Jack to his friend Tommy and they soon discovered their mutual love of alternative music, adding Matt, a close family friend to Tommy on guitar and also later discovering the musical talent of Tom on the guitar, together creating Casino Empire who have become more and more popular as the months have progressed, performing at different venues across Leicester every weekend.
The band have recently auditioned for a spot at the local 'Glastonbudget' festival, a weekend festival in Leicester including a variety of tribute bands, and unsigned acts, in the hope to be discovered.
Casino Empire are growing bigger and bigger every week, and have a lot of potential for the future and hope to someday be signed by a record label enabling them to release an album of their own music.

Casino Empire- Live at the Exchange Bar
Rock and Roll Star- Oasis

Recovery- Frank Turner

I've just come across this music video, and I really really like it. To do something like this would take a lot longer than the time we have, and a lot of editing and someone who can draw, so it's too ambitious in all honesty. But i have taken inspiration from it, with the split screen and words and the scenery and would like to produce something with part of this involved.

Kasabian- Switchblade Smiles

I am inspired by this music video as I think the video as a whole is very simple yet effective. I like the black and white aspect of the video as it gives it a straight forward feel, and linking this with the white background contrasting with the black clothing, equipment and hair make the imagery quite powerful.

Miles Kane- Better Than That

I would like to use the setting of the rehearsal room in this video in my own video as i like the home made look. I could achieve this by using the 'Quad' rehearsal rooms in leicester (see locations post)

Jake Bugg- Seen It All

Give Up- Miles Kane

the band I am using for my music video also like and know this song very well, and i think the song would work well, especially if i get a girl involved for some 'mysterious' shots. I also like the use of the projected words on the back ground (also used when Kasabian play live) and the colours and silhouettes to take inspiration form.

Come Closer- Miles Kane

I am using this song for my video as the band I am filming enjoy and know the song well. I want to use ideas from a few of Kasabian and Miles Kane's music videos such as the coloured lighting, black and white effect in the music video for Switchblade Smiles and also the plain white background. I could achieve this background by asking to use a studio in places such as Leicester college.

Clubfoot- Kasabian

This song and music video includes a range of dynamics and different tempo's, as does the song I have chosen, encouraging interesting camera angles and effects that relate to the genre of Kasabian's music: Indie Rock, Psychedelic rock and electronic rock as these genres include lots of special effects, colours and lights in both the music and imagery. I have used this as inspiration as the lights on stage during a performance give the impression of this atmosphere.
